Taking a Driving Test at Wakefield or Heckmondwike
Wakefield Driving Test Centre
Mothers Way, Silkwood Park Ossett, West Yorkshire WF5 9TR
Going by the statistics Wakefield test centre is one of the easiest test centres to pass in West Yorkshire. Situated just of the M1 junction 40 and main Dewsbury to Wakefield road in Flanshaw industrial estate, just tucked behind the new Silkwood farm pub/restaurant. Don’t be fooled by the fairly high pass rates (43.0% as of feb 2011). The area can be a challenging place to sit your test, with test routes going into the city centre, plenty of roundabouts, dual carriageways, some national speed limit roads and some 20 mph zones. On the positive side the area is mostly flat and junctions tend to be quite open so with good planning and anticipation skills the car shouldn’t stop much.
Private practice and driving lessons should be concentrated around the City centre, Pinderfields, Wrenthorpe, Alverthorpe, Ossett, Horbury, Lupset and towards the outskirts of Dewsbury.
Heckmondwike Driving Test Centre
Tower Buildings, High Street, Heckmondwike, WF16 0AS
If you read the statistics for Heckmondwike test centre the figures can be a little daunting. Current statistics state it has being the fourth hardest in the U.K, having a pass rate of 30.2%. This is an improvement from 2003 when the Spenborough Guardian ran an article claiming it to be the second most difficult place to pass in the U.K with pass rates at 28.41%. The reason for the low pass rates are that it isn’t an easy place to drive through, situated in the middle of West Yorkshires major towns and cities, you get a busy flow of traffic at all times through the day. Lots of hills with hilltop emerging t-junctions, narrow closed junctions and narrow streets with lots of parked cars, so you will stop and move off frequently. Clutch control has to be first rate and good anticipation and planning skills are needed to negotiate the awkward situations that you encounter on the test routes here. Driving Lessons and private practice should be concentrated around Dewsbury, Heckmondwike, Birstall, Batley, Cleckheaton and Gomersal.
